LINKO Encoder Sensor Detection & Replacement Guide
Applicable Model: LINKO K605B DTF Printer
1. Fault Symptoms and Inspection
If you experience any of the following situations, please check or replace the encoder sensor.
| No. | Fault Description | Detection Method |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Abnormal X-Axis Value: The X-axis value on the software does not change when the carriage moves (always shows 0.00). | Move the carriage to the left and observe the X-axis value on the software. If the value stays at 0.00 during movement, the encoder sensor is faulty. |
| 2 | Software Error Message: The printer software shows an error related to the encoder sensor. | Check the error code or message. Refer to the “Error Code Table” to confirm if it is caused by the encoder sensor. |
2. Replacement Steps
2.1 Preparation
Activate Emergency Stop: Press the emergency stop switch to stop the machine. (See Figure 2.1.1)
2.1.2 Safety Warning: Always turn off the main power and unplug the machine before any operation. Otherwise, the encoder sensor may be damaged or cause electric shock.
2.1.3 Remove the Carriage Board (to Expose the Sensor): The encoder sensor is located under the carriage board. You must remove the carriage board before continuing.
Note:
If you are not familiar with removing the carriage board, please read
“1.1.2 Replace Carriage Board” – Step 2 first, and remove it completely.
After removal, return to Step 2.1.4 in this guide.
2.1.4 Take a Reference Photo: After removing the carriage board, take a clear photo of the encoder sensor position for later reference.
2.2 Remove the Old Encoder Sensor
Unscrew the screws on the encoder sensor bracket. (See Figure 2.2.1)
2.2.2 Remove the encoder sensor together with the bracket. (See Figure 2.2.2-1)Then unscrew the sensor from the bracket to separate them. (See Figure 2.2.2-2/2.2.2-3)
2.2.3 Cut the cable tie holding the sensor wire and remove the sensor.(See Figure 2.2.3-2)
2.3 Install the New Encoder Sensor
2.3.1 Align the encoder sensor with the holes on the bracket and tighten the screws.(See Figure 2.2.2-2)
2.3.2 Align the bracket and sensor with the holes on the printer frame. Place it gently and tighten the two screws.(See Figure 2.3.2-2)
Important Notice:
Keep a small gap between the sensor window and the encoder strip.
Do not let them touch; contact can scratch the strip or cause signal errors. (See Figure 2.3.2-3)
2.3.3 Use a new cable tie to fix the wire in place. Make sure the wire will not block carriage movement. (See Figure 2.3.4)
Note: After installation, take a clear photo of the encoder sensor.
Send it to LINKO Technical Support for confirmation before continuing.
2.4 Reinstall the Carriage Board
Note:
For details, please refer to “1.1.2 Replace Carriage Board” – Steps 3 and 4.
After reinstalling the carriage board, return to Section 3 below for power-on testing.
3. Power-on Test
3.1 After connection, make sure all cables are firm.
3.2 Plug in the power cable and switch on the main power.
(See Figure 2.1-2)
3.3 Turn the emergency switch clockwise to release it(See Figure 3.3).
3.4 Press and hold the “Left” key on the control panel to move the carriage along the X-axis. (See Figure 3.4)
3.5 Check the X-Axis Value
✅ Normal:
When the carriage moves, the X-axis value changes continuously.
Example: The value starts from 0.00 and increases gradually → The encoder sensor works normally.
❌ Abnormal:
When the carriage moves, the X-axis value does not change.
Example: The value always stays at 0.00 → The encoder sensor is not detecting or sending position signals.
