Technical Term Explanation

Term Technical Description
Printhead Cable Used to connect the printhead to the printer motherboard.
Ink Damper Filters ink before it enters the printhead, stabilizing ink flow and reducing pressure fluctuations.
Acetate Tape A special tape made of strong cloth. It resists heat and ink, sticks well, and does not burn easily. Used to protect wires or parts inside the printhead. Not replaceable with standard tapes.

Important: The print heads are high-value, delicate components. Once the packaging is opened, they are non-returnable and non-refundable. Handle with extreme caution.

1. Printhead Preparation Before Installation

This section explains how to prepare tools, verify the printhead model, and ensure safe working conditions before installation.

Preparation List: Print heads, cable, dampers, phillips screwdriver, dust-free cloth, acetate tape, anti-static wrist straps and dust-free gloves.

1.1 Verify Print head Model Compatibility

Verify the model on the outer, inner, and QR codes. Incorrect installation will cause printing issues

Verify Print head Model Compatibility:

  • Water-based print heads (e.g., i3200-A1) must not be installed in UV or Solvent printers.
  • UV print heads (e.g., i3200-U1) must not be installed in DTF or Sublimation printers.
  • Always cross-reference the model on outer packaging, inner packaging, and QR code on print head to avoid printing abnormalities.

Please do not proceed with installation if the printhead type does not match your printer model.

1.2 Power Off the Printer Completely

Disconnect all power sources to eliminate any risk of electrostatic discharge or short circuits.

1.3 Inspect Cables & Slot

Check the image that matches your printhead type, and use it as a guide for inspection. The Printhead Cable Connector Pin (Keep it clean, dry, and dust-free)

  • Ensure the print head cable pins are undamaged, unoxidized, and free of liquid residue.
  • Ensure print head slot areas are clean, dry, and free from dust.

2. Connecting the Printhead to the Flat Cables

This section guides you through the correct procedure for aligning and connecting the printhead cables, and applying acetate tape for protection.

2.1 Avoid Nozzle Contact

Check the image that matches your printhead type, and use it as a guide for inspection.Avoid any contact with the nozzle surface (the ink ejection side). Even slight contact may damage the nozzles or clog the ink channels.

2.2 Connect the print head cable Securely

  • Align the cable pins with the printhead slot. Make sure the direction is correct and the connection is tight.
  • After installation, make sure: Full pin alignment (no offset), Firm connection (no wobbling), Undamaged pins (no bending/deformation)

2.3 Apply Acetate Tape for Leak Prevention

  • Cut acetate tape to the exact length between the screw holes.
  • First apply the acetate tape to the nozzle side. Wrap the cable connection completely and fold it firmly to seal.
  • Then apply to opposite side: Duplicate wrapping in the same way to ensure dual-layer sealing.

3. Connecting the Flat Cables to the Carriage Board

This section shows how to route and connect the flat cables from the printheads to the carriage board, based on your printer model.

3.1 Route & Connect to Main board for A-602L-402A-604L-A3K-602 and KM-602K-604K-402UDY-603UDY-403P-6090P-A3M-4060SC-1801HSK-1802HSK-1804HSX-1908A

Before connecting the printheads to the carriage board, please confirm the Printer model. The model information can be found on the printer’s nameplate.

3.1.1 Confirm the Corresponding Positions Between Printheads and Carriage Board Ports

Refer to the Printhead Cable Diagram to identify the correct connection ports on the carriage board for each printhead.

For example, refer to the Printhead Layout Diagram to identify the “First Head,” and connect it to the corresponding port labeled “First Head” on the carriage board, as shown in the Carriage Board Port Layout Diagram.

Then, follow the connection diagram to insert each flat cable into its correct carriage board port.

4.2 Securing the Print head:

There are two methods for securing the printhead, depending on whether an ink damper holder is used:

  • Without ink damper holder
Directly fasten the printhead to the carriage usingpre-matched short screws. (See Figure 4.2-1)
  • With ink damper holder
Align the screw holes of the ink damper holder with those on the printhead.
Then use the pre-matchedlong screws to fix both the ink damper holder and the printhead to the carriage together. (See Figure 4.2-3)

5. Attaching Dampers and Performing Ink Priming

This section covers how to install the dampers in the correct direction, connect them to the printhead, and perform ink priming properly.

5.1 Arrange Dampers Correctly

All ink dampers—regardless of their shape or whether an ink damper holder is used—must be installed in the same direction, with the printhead’s QR code facing you and the illustrated side of each damper facing left.Refer to the following diagrams for different damper types.

5.2 Damper-to-Printhead Connection

  • Insert the damper vertically into the print head port to avoid ink pole damage or poor contact.

5.3 Leak Protection During Damper Filling

  • Place dust-free cloth under the print head cable connection to prevent ink leakage and short circuits.

5.4 Proper Damper Filling Technique

  • Hold the damper by its side edges during priming.
  • Gently pull the syringe to allow the ink to fill slowly.
  • NEVER press the damper. It can damage the inside or block the nozzle.
  • When extracting ink, slightly lift the front end of the damper upward at an angle.

6. Pre-Power-On Inspection Checklis

Final System Verification Before Power-On

Before turning on the printer, please carefully check all the following items yourself.

After your own inspection is complete, you must send photos of each item to your LINKO technician for confirmation. Please make sure photos are clear and taken from the correct angles.

Do not turn on the printer until a LINKO technician confirms it is safe.

If the printer is powered on without LINKO’s confirmation and a short circuit occurs, the user will bear full responsibility.

7. Safety and Maintenance Tips

This section summarizes key safety precautions and long-term maintenance reminders. It is your final checklist before powering on the machine and your daily reference for protecting the printhead.

7.1 Critical Safety Reminders

  • Always power off and unplug the printerbefore handling the printhead, cables, or dampers.
  • Never touch the nozzle surface, ink ports, or cable pins. These areas are highly sensitive and easily damaged.
  • Only open the printhead package when you’re ready to install. Once unsealed, the printhead is non-returnable and non-refundable.
  • Make sure your work area stays clean, dry, and free of static.

7.2 Correct Materials and Tools

Use only original or officially recommended cables, dampers, screws, and acetate tape.

Do not replace acetate tape with standard adhesive tape—this will void sealing and may cause short circuits.

Avoid using expired, contaminated, or low-quality ink to prevent clogging and damage.

7.3 Daily Maintenance Best Practices

  • Run at least one print job dailyto avoid ink drying in the nozzles.
  • Perform regular nozzle checksand printhead cleanings as needed.
  • If the printer is idle for more than 48 hours, clean the printhead.
  • Inspect damper and cable connections weekly for leakage, loosening, or wear.

7.4 Mandatory Confirmation Before Power-On

✅ After completing all installation steps, take photos of the following and send them to your LINKO technician for approval:

  • Printhead position and mounting
  • Cable routing and connection
  • Acetate tape sealing
  • Damper connection sequence

Power-on is not allowed until LINKO gives explicit confirmation.
If you turn on the printer without approval, you are fully responsible for any damage.

✅ Final Note

The printhead is the most critical and fragile component of your printer. Careful installation and regular maintenance are essential for its performance and lifespan. If in doubt, contact LINKO technical support before proceeding.
