Print Start Position Adjustment Guide

Applicable Model: LINKO DTF Printer(BYHX Board)

1. Conditions Requiring Print Start Position Adjustment

When printing a nozzle test pattern, if the color bars or test pattern are printed outside the effective printing area of the film (for example, printed onto media clips), the print start position must be adjusted.(See Figure 1)

2. Checks Before Adjusting the Print Start Position (Important)

Before adjusting the print start position, first confirm whether your printer has a print platform scale ruler, then directly choose the corresponding operation method:
– Case 1: Printer with a print platform scale ruler
→ Follow the steps in Chapter 4 (See Figure 2-1)
– Case 2: Printer without a print platform scale ruler
→ Follow the steps in Chapters 5–6 (See Figure 2-2)

3. Reference Distance Explanation

  • The “color bar start position about 1 cm from the right edge of the film” mentioned in this guide is only a recommended reference value, not a fixed or mandatory standard.
  • The purpose of this value is to quickly establish an initial baseline for the print start position, and to determine whether the print start position has entered a reasonable printing area.
  • In actual use, slight differences may exist between printers:
Some printers achieve the best results at around 1 cm.
Others may perform better at around 1.5 cm.

There is no need to pursue exact consistency. As long as the color bars print stably on the film, the adjustment can be considered effective.

4. Case 1: Printer with a Scale Ruler

This section applies to printers equipped with a print platform scale ruler. (See Figure 2-1)

4.1 Operation Steps

4.1.1 Determine the Color Bar Print Start Position

Using the right edge of the film as the reference point, measure 1 cm to the left.

Use this position as the recommended print start position for the color bars in the test pattern
(See Figure 4.1.1).

Note: 1 cm is a recommended reference distance.

4.1.2 Read the Scale Ruler Value

Check the value on the print platform scale ruler corresponding to the 1 cm position.
Record this value, for example: 6.4 cm. (See Figure 4.1.2)

4.1.3 Open Print Manager Software

Double-click the “PM” icon on the computer desktop to enter the software main interface (See Figure 4.1.3).

4.1.4 Enter the Scale Ruler Value

In the “X” parameter field at the top-left corner, enter the recorded scale value 6.4
(See Figure 4.1.4).

4.2 Adjustment Confirmation

  • Click “Nozzle” in the menu bar to print a test pattern (See Figure 4.2-1).
  • Observe whether the color bar start position is about 1 cm from the right edge of the film (See Figure 4.2-2).

4.3 Result Check and Next Steps:

  • If the color bar start position is correct (about 1 cm):
→ This indicates that the print start position has been correctly calibrated, and the adjustment is complete.
  • If the color bar start position is still not around 1 cm:
→ Please follow the steps below:
  1. Reconfirm that the film is laid flat and secured, and that the film edge is aligned with the platform
  2. Re-measure the scale ruler value corresponding to 1 cm from the right edge of the film
  3. Re-enter the newly measured value into the “X” parameter field
  4. Click “Nozzle” again to print a test pattern for verification

Adjustment Complete:
The color bar start position is about 1 cm from the right edge of the film.

5. Case 2: Printer without a Scale Ruler

Applicable to Printers without any Scale Marking (See Figure 2-2)

Calibration Method Description:
In the absence of a physical scale reference, the print start position should be calibrated through the following process:
Print → Measure → Calculate → Adjust.

5.1 Operation Steps

5.1.1 Open Print Manager Software

Double-click the “PM” icon on the computer desktop to enter the main interface of the software (See Figure 5.1.1).

5.1.2 Adjust the “X” Parameter Value

Adjust the value in the “X” parameter field at the top-left corner (See Figure 5.1.2):

  • Increase the X value → Print start position moves to the left → Entire pattern shifts left
  • Decrease the X value → Print start position moves to the right → Entire pattern shifts right

6. Adjustment Example for Printers without a Scale Ruler

(Color Bars Not Printed on the Film)

6.1 Identify the Three Required Values

When the print platform does not have a scale ruler, three values are required to calculate the new print start position X:

  • One fixed reference value: the target position where the color bars should finally appear
  • One measured value: the current position where the color bars actually appear
  • One software value: the current X value displayed in the software

Follow the steps below to obtain these three values in order.

6.1.1 Confirm the Target Color Bar Position

(No Measurement Required)

The color bars should finally be printed on the film and positioned approximately 1 cm from the right edge of the film. (See Figure 6.1-1)

This 1 cm value is used as a reference only.
No measurement is required. Record it directly as:

Target Position = 1 cm

6.1.2 Measure the Current Color Bar Position

(Measurement Required)

Using a ruler, measure the distance between the current starting position of the color bars and the right edge of the film. (See Figure 6.1-2)

Record the measured value, for example:

Current Distance = 0.4 cm

6.1.3 Check the Current X Value in the Software

Open the Print Manager software and check the X parameter value displayed in the upper-left area of the interface. (See Figure 6.1-3)

Record this value, for example:

Original X Value = 5 cm

6.2 Calculate the New X Value

After obtaining the three values above, calculate the new X value using the following formula:
New X Value = Original X Value + Target Position + Current Distance

6.2.1 Example Calculation

Original X Value: 5 cm
Target Position: 1 cm
Current Distance: 0.4 cm
Calculation result:
New X Value = 5 + 1 + 0.4 = 6.4 cm
Enter 6.4 cm into the “X” parameter field in the software
(See Figure 6.)

Notes (For Reference Only)

  • Target Position (1 cm): the desired final position of the color bars
  • Current Distance: the actual current position of the color bars
  • New X Value: the parameter used to move the color bars from the current position to the target position

6.3 Reprint and Result Verification

  • Click “Nozzle” in the software to print a test pattern
    (See Figure 6.3-1)
  • Observe the distance between the color bar start position and the right edge of the film
    (See Figure 6.3-2)

Judgment and Adjustment Rules:

  • If the measured distance is greater than 1 cm:
→ The print start position is offset to the left
    Decrease the X value accordingly
→ Recommended adjustment per step: 0.2–0.5 cm
  • If the distance is less than 1 cm:
→ The print start position is offset to the right
    Increase the X value accordingly
→ Recommended adjustment per step: 0.2–0.5 cm
  • After each adjustment, click “Nozzle” again to reprint and verify.

Adjustment Completion Criteria:
The color bar start position is approximately 1 cm from the right edge of the film.

7. Completion

The print start position adjustment is complete.
Normal printing can now be started.
