Set the Media Width (Print Area) for LINKO DTF Printers

Applicable Software: PrintFactory RIP

1. Purpose

This guide explains how to set the media width in PrintFactory RIP. This setting limits the print area.

The safety margins help prevent the film edges from curling upward when heated and rubbing against the printhead. They also help prevent ink from being printed onto non-print areas, such as the media clamps or vacuum platen. This reduces missing image areas and wasted prints.

2. Before You Start

Before you start, make sure:

  • PrintFactory RIP is installed and starts normally.
  • You know the actual film width.
  • The measurement unit has been set. If not, see “Set the Unit of Measurement”.

3. Set the Media Width

3.1 Start PrintFactory RIP

On the computer desktop, double-click the PrintFactory RIP icon.(See Fig.3.1)

3.2 Select the Printer

In the printer list on the left side of the main window, click the printer you want to configure.(See Fig.3.2)

3.3 Open Change Media

Click the Change Media icon on the toolbar. The icon looks like a white sheet of paper Icon. The Change Media window opens.(See Fig.3.3)

3.4 Select Custom

In the Change Media window, open the Media Size drop-down list. Select Custom.(See Fig.3.4)

3.5 Enter the Media Width

To leave safety margins on both sides of the film, set the Width value 20 mm (about 0.8 in) less than the actual film width.

The margins total 20 mm (about 0.8 in). Each side has a margin of about 10 mm (about 0.4 in).

Use the value in the table that matches the actual film width and the current software unit:

Actual Film Width Width Value
330 mm 310
600 mm 580
12 in 11.2
24 in 23.2

For other film widths, calculate the Width value as follows:

  • Unit: mm. Width Value = Actual Film Width − 20 mm
  • Unit: in. Width Value = Actual Film Width − 0.8 in

In the Width fieldwidth, enter the value from the table or your calculated value.

(See Fig.3.5)

3.6 Save and Verify

  1. Check that the settings are correct. Click OK to save.
  2. Reopen Change Media. Confirm that Media Size is set to Custom. Confirm that the Width value matches your setting.
